About Chicks In Pink
Background
As the daughters, granddaughters, sisters, nieces, friends and supporters of women who had been diagnosed with breast cancer, Chicks In Pink was formed to provide tangible and immediate benefits to women with breast cancer cared for at Mater. Today, chicks in pink supports Mater Private Hospital Brisbane , Mater Private Hospital Redland, Mater Adult Hospital and Mater Medical Research Institute.
Chicks In Pink is now a program of Mater Foundation, which engages philanthropic and community support for Mater Health Services and Mater Medical Research Institute.
Mission
The mission of Chicks In Pink is to raise funds which have a positive, significant and real impact on people who are affected by breast cancer and contribute to the better understanding and treatment of breast cancer through medical research.
We achieve this through:
Innovative activities that are fun and educational
Partnering with like-minded people and organisations
Making a difference
Chicks In Pink makes a real difference to women with breast cancer both by providing for immediate needs of women undergoing treatment at Mater and by contributing to research to find better treatments.
Some of the ways that Chicks In Pink have been able to make a difference include:
Providing two specially fitted bras for every woman who undergoes a mastectomy at Mater.
Sponsorship of the Mindful Parenting Program - a support group for mothers who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, where thay can learn ways to explain the different stages of treatment to their children.
Sponsorship of a Young Women's group for women under 40 who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer at Mater. This group is facilitated by a clinical psychologist and includes 10 sessions for each patient.
Provding support to women who are receiving treatment and suffering financial stress. This may be as simple as providing grocery vouchers; parking vouchers; or paying utility accounts.
